SUBJECT: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY - The NPC New England Press Policy
To All Concerned:
As you may be aware, the NPC has had a standing press pass policy for all national events that only authorized members of formal press organizations are eligible for complimentary press credentials.
In accordance with that philosophy and understanding the growth of New England contests in general, NPC New England is adopting the same policy modified to the needs specific to New England events. It is subject to updates at anytime without notice.
APPROVAL TO ATTEND EVENT;
Requests, accompanied by staff list, must be made to the District Chairman of the state that the event shall be held, a minimum of 1 WEEK PRIOR to the date of the actual competition. No approval will be given at the actual competition. Upon approval, an email with protocol will be sent.
PHOTOGRAPHERS;
We do not allow freelance photographers and writers, regardless of their notoriety, press entrance to our events where they shoot photographs or write copy and then submit them to various publications on a prospective sale basis, aka, "maybe they get published, and maybe they dont."
NPC New England has photographers in place. For media outlets asking to use our self provided services, they shall be served after New England needs are fulfilled, ie. we will not distribute contest results or pictures to any media until it has been announced on NPCNewEngland.com, our main source of information in the greater New England area.
WEBSITES;
New England will recognize only websites that are extensions of the normal bodybuilding and fitness print publications, i.e., websites that represent FLEX, MUSCLE & FITNESS, etc.
Our #1 priority website is NPCNewEngland.com
We also do not recognize individual photographers, writers, or interested bodybuilding fans who maintain and promote websites, no matter the level of traffic. The information that is authorized by the NPC to be disseminated to the general public is that which follows through the already approved media outlets. Too many times we have found that individual website operations, albeit they be very highly trafficked and creatively designed, do not serve the aims and goals of the NPC and very often have motives other than those of the organizations best interests.
VIDEO INTERVIEWS;
Shall be conducted in an area designated by the district chairman or appointed official; clearly out of the way of the actual workings of the competition so as to not interfere with the actual competition itself.
LOCAL NEWSPAPER/TELEVISION;
We recognize the need for local media outlets for local level competitions. We will work with these individuals on a case by case basis.
If you have further questions, please direct them to us at the New England Office.
Sincerely,
David Follansbee
DISTRICT CHAIRMAN
